The Sept 2019 ‘On the Nail’ Literary Gathering

This month, our guests are poets Ali Whitelock and Edward O’Dwyer plus OPEN-MIC!
Ali Whitelock is a Scottish poet and writer living on the south coast of Sydney with her French chain-smoking husband. Her debut poetry collection, ‘and my heart crumples like a coke can’ has just been released by Wakefield Press, Adelaide and her memoir, ‘Poking seaweed with a stick and running away from the smell’ was launched to critical acclaim in Australia and the UK in 2010. Her poems have appeared in The Moth Magazine, The American Journal of Poetry, Gutter Magazine, NorthWords Now, The Poets’ Republic, The Red Room Company, Beautiful Losers Magazine, Backstory Journal, Other Terrain Journal, Ink Sweat & Tears and upcoming in The Glasgow Review of Books and The Pittsburgh Quarterly Magazine. She will be reading from ‘and my heart crumples like a coke can’ at several events in Ireland in June & July this year and will be appearing at the Ness Book Festival in the Scottish Highlands in October. She is currently working on her second memoir and second poetry collection.
Edward O’Dwyer is from Limerick and writes poetry and fiction. He has two collections of poetry to date, published by Salmon Poetry – The Rain on Cruise’s Street (2014) and Bad News, Good News, Bad News (2017). His work has been published in journals throughout the world and been nominated for Pushcart, Forward and Best of the Web prizes regularly. He has most recently completed a book of comic micro-fictions, Cheat Sheets, and is working on a third poetry collection.
Everyone is invited to take part in the open-mic after the main event, poets, storytellers, musicians and writers. Even if you don’t write you are welcome to bring something along to read. The night begins at 8.00pm and admission is free. So join us on the night and make this event something special.
