The Limerick Writers’ Centre has run April is Poetry Month in Limerick since 2014. Our aim is to create poetry events during April involving public participation, celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture. We host a number of poetry events ourselves but this is also a cooperative festival of poetry taking in all the poetry events happening in the city for the month of April. WE have received no funding for next year’s (2020) festival and so are appealing to our supporters to donate to help us continue to promote the vital work of poetry in our society in 2020.

What the Limerick Writers’ Centre does.
Each year the Limerick Writers’ Centre engages more than 300 emerging and established writers, creating learning opportunities through classes and a platform for sharing and feedback. We host more than 50 events annually, including readings, book launches ,creative writing classes and two major festivals ‘April is Poetry Month in Limerick’ and ‘Limericksfest’ – a celebration of the 5 line limerick verse. We connect with more than 5,000 unique visitors through events and digital resources on our website. We collaborate with more than 10 local and national organizations in our mission to enrich the literary environment of the greater Limerick area.
Our artistic objectives are to create and sustain a vibrant literary community in Limerick and the Mid-West. Our festival is about creating as much interaction as possible with the general public under three strands: place, people and culture. The staged events (readings and workshops) are for the seriously interested in poetry and literature. Our Poetry Trail/Wall allows even the disinterested the opportunity to engage. Our World Book Day reading takes place in Arthur’s Quay Shopping Centre and always attracts both the afficandos of poetry and curious onlookers.
