DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday 7th August at The Whitehouse Bar\, 52 O’Connell Street\, Limerick at 7.30pm for our First Wednesday Series poetry reading and open-mic. Our special guest reader is Bernadette Gallagher whose debut collection The Risen Tree was published by Limerick’s Revival Press earlier this year!\n\n\nBernadette Gallagher was born by the sea in Donegal and lives inland on a hill in County Cork with a view to the Cork and Kerry mountains\, working the land beside a small forest that she and her husband planted in the mid-1980s. Her poems have been published in various journals and anthologies. She has received awards from the Arts Council of Ireland and Cork County Council. She enjoys reading her poetry to live audiences whether in Cork at the Ó Bhéal Winter Warmer Festival\, Cork International Poetry Festival\, The Sahitya Akademi in New Delhi or the Nuyorican Poets Café in New York.\n\n\nAn essay by Bernadette on Dorothea Herbert (1767-1829) is published by Cork University Press in Irish Women Poets Rediscovered: Readings in poetry from the eighteenth–twentieth century edited by Maria Johnston and Conor Linnie.\n\n\nShe has collaborated with painters\, composers\, and musicians.\n\n\nBernadetteGallagher.blogspot.com

Richard W. Halperin\, an  Irish American poet\, has gained recognition for his evocative verses\, published by  literary platforms such as Salmon Poetry and Lapwing Poetry. As Mr. Halperin celebrates his 80th birthday\, Salmon prepares to release his much-anticipated anthology\, Selected & New Poems for Autumn 2023\, drawing upon his profound collections. \nSheila Fitzpatrick O’Donnell\, hailing from Limerick City and now residing in Shanagolden\, Co. Limerick\, carries the rich legacy of her poetic lineage. Inspired by her mother\, fondly known as Polly the Poet\, Sheila has crafted a captivating body of work that has been featured in anthologies both in Ireland and abroad. The Limerick Writers’ Centre revived the competition as part of our April is Poetry Month in Limerick 2019 festival. In 2013 Salmon published his essays The Hidden World of Poetry: Unravelling Celtic Mythology in Contemporary Irish Poetry\, Foreword by Paula Meehan. His second collection The Art of Dying (2016) was an Irish Times Book of the Year. Wyeth’s plays have been performed across Ireland as well as in New York and Berlin. His play This Is What Happened was published by Salmon in 2019. In 2020 he received the Arts Council Ireland Literature Project Award and was selected for the Abbey Theatre Engine Room Development Programme to work on an audio production of about:blank. about:blank premiered at Dublin Theatre Festival 2021\, performed by Olwen Fouere\, Owen Roe and Paula McGlinchey. In 2021 Wyeth was selected for artist residencies at the Heinrich Böll Cottage and the Ámeto Mítico Residency along the Camino de Santiago. With his brother\, Austin\, he collaborates on a programme of poetry and guitar music\, and they have produced two albums\, The Secret Chord and Going Gone. His memoir in prose and poems\, Saved to Memory: Lost to View\, was issued in 2016\, and in September 2017 his first poetry collection\, Where It Began\, was published by Revival Press. DESCRIPTION:The Acoustic Club @ Charlie Malone’s Bar\, 19 Wolfe Tone Street\, Limerick\nPresent\nTues 3rd Sept 2018 \nFaraway Martin -singer/songwriter \n\nFaraway Martin returns to Ireland from Doha\, Qatar\, where he has been based for the past four years. The singer/songwriter is completing a mammoth tour of Ireland\, playing 32 gigs in all 32 counties\, in 32 days. September 1st will see the Mayo man take off via campervan promoting his new single ‘I Wanna Go’ which has already received radioplay in the States\, the UK as well as national radioplay in Ireland. This first single from Faraway Martin’s upcoming debut album set for release in March. The tour will comprise of headline gigs\, support slots\, house concerts and festivals appearances around the country as well as getting into schools and youth clubs to share his music and travel experiences. The former teacher will be joined by various Irish artists along the way to help him complete all 32 counties.\n(For more details on the tour check out www.farawaymartin.com) \nThe Acoustic Club is a live music venue presenting local\, independent and nationally touring performers. It is a non-profit organisation and 100% volunteer operated. Based at Charlie Malone’s Bar\, Wolfe Tone.. St\, Limerick\, The Acoustic Club takes place every Tuesday at 9.00pm. \nAll aspiring songwriters\, musicians and singers are invited to attend and play in front of a live audience. \nPlease note musicians attend and perform purely on a voluntary basis and the event is designed to showcase the work of aspiring artists. All types of music and singers are welcome. \nThe evening will feature performers doing short sets of two or three songs. Also “Special Guest” slots where an established performer will perform a set. Host for the evening is Eugene Nolan. The Acoustic Club is a regular feature of the live music scene in Limerick. \nThe Acoustic Club is an initiative of The Limerick Writers’ Centre.
