Evelyn Casey’s first collection of poetry and prose, called Not My Life Story – But the Next Best Thing’, is an an exploration of the family, ranging from the birth of the author’s great grandparents, Michael (1845) and Mary (1852) Hogan to the birth of the author’s grandchild, Gwenevere, in 2013. It is a very personal homage to her people, reflected in story and poem. Above all it is a celebration of their lives and hardships, their tenacious ability to overcome adversity through characteristic grace and love for each other. Evelyn Casey is very conscious of the debt she owes to those who dug the well for her to drink from, and this work is her way of giving something back. The book is dedicated to her grandmother Louisa.
