Advanced Film Script Writing Course

The Limerick Writers’ Centre six-week short film scriptwriting course returns on Saturday the 14h of January 2017 to Saturday the 18th of February, 2017.

Since the centre started running this course 6 years ago, many of the participants have gone on to film success. Most noted are Andrew O’Gorman, Brian Comerford and Maeve McGrath. Andrew was shortlisted by Dublin’s Filmbase for their RTE bi-annual short script awards with the script he developed during the course. Brian Comerford was shortlisted for the Waterford Film Festival 2013 short script award, and is currently writing a script for the actor Jeremy Irons. And Maeve McGrath’s first film after the course was selected by the Chicago Irish Film Festival 2013, the Galway Film Fleadh 2013, Underground Cinema Film Festival 2013, The Fingal Film Festival 2013 and the Dingle Film Festival 2014, to name a few. She is now Creative Director of the Kerry Film Festival.

Eleanor McSherry, who facilitates the course, has been shortlisted by Filmbase and the Galway Filmcentre many times. She was also shortlisted for the Waterford Film Festival’s short film script award 2012. She is a film producer and scriptwriter with Sidhe Film, Co-Chair of LACE (Limerick Arts and Culture Exchange and is Vice-Chair of the LACE Film Pillar. She was Creative Director and one of the co-founders of the Richard Harris Film Festival and film correspondent with Fusion Magazine. She currently is the Arts and Culture correspondent with Limerick’s Life newspaper. She also previously was a committee member with Behind the Scenes Film Network based in Limerick City, wrote for Film Ireland Magazine and was involved with both the LIT and Fresh Film Festivals. Eleanor has worked with Nathalie Lichetnthaeler (Wide Eye Films), Jenny Conroy Roche (John Huston School of Film), Ivan McMahon (Two Hungry Fish), Sidhe Film, Steve Hall Productions and Apate Film, to name but a few. The course will entail an reintroduction to the craft of screenwriting, how to write a feature film treatment, some film professionals will give talks on their jobs, how to pitch and sell your script. You will finish this course with a completed film treatment to sell. The course will run on Saturday’s from 3pm to 5pm.

Fee for the six week course is €150.00 (€140.00 concession). Places must be paid for in advance and booking is essential as places are limited.
