Repossessing the Poetry of the Dispossessed

The Limerick Writers’ Centre in association with Foras na Gaeilge Present this Poetry Masterclass

Sat 15th July 2017 10.00am to 4.00pm

This one-day masterclass will work with An Duanaire 1600-1900: Poems of the Dispossessed by Ó Tuama & Kinsella (1981) with a view to clarifying those Irish, English and European strands found in some of the poems. Links with the poetry we write today will be explored. Participants are expected to bring a draft poem in English or Irish (with translation in English) and time will be spent working on those drafts. Participants will read aloud the finished poem at the end of the day.

Your Tutor: An experienced and inspiring teacher of poetry, John Liddy (1954) was born in County Cork, grew up in Limerick, resides in Madrid and took a degree with the University of Wales. He is the founding editor, along with Jim Burke, of the literary magazine The Stony Thursday Book and has published ten collections of poetry in English and three of those with Spanish translations, as well as books for children. His most recent book of poetry is The Secret Heart of Things (Revival Press, 2014). He was Limerick City of Culture Poet in Residence for July 2014. He is co-editor of the recent publication 1916-2016: An Anthology of Reactions.
