Limerick Writers’ Centre and Draíocht Art Gallery, Adare, Co. Limerick, will announce the 2025 winner of the prestigious Gerald Griffin Competition for First Adult Fiction at a reading and music reception in Draíocht Art Gallery,Adare, Co. Limerick on Thurs 18th Sept 6.30pm.
The Gerald Griffin Competition for First Adult Fiction, now in its second year, celebrates emerging talent in adult fiction writing. The brainchild of poet and author Ciaran O’Driscoll, who serves as in-house judge, the competition has established itself as a significant platform for new literary voices.
This year’s external judge was Dr. Kerry Beth Neville, Associate Professor of English at Georgia College and State University, USA, bringing international expertise to the selection process.
The evening will feature musical performances by John Bashford and Margaret Farrell, along with special surprise guests, creating an atmospheric celebration of literature and the arts.
“The Gerald Griffin Competition represents our commitment to nurturing new writing talent and celebrating the rich tradition of Irish storytelling,” said Dominic Taylor of Limerick Writers’ Centre.
The competition is organised by Limerick Writers’ Centre and supported by Draíocht Art Gallery, reflecting the collaborative spirit of Limerick’s vibrant literary community.

ABOUT THE GERALD GRIFFIN COMPETITION: Named after the celebrated Limerick-born novelist and playwright Gerald Griffin (1803-1840), the competition honours his legacy by supporting contemporary fiction writers at the beginning of their careers.
ABOUT CIARAN O’DRISCOLL: Ciaran O’Driscoll lives in Limerick and is a member of Aosdána. He has published ten books of poetry, the most recent being Angel Hour (2021), a childhood memoir titled A Runner Among Falling Leaves (2001), and two novels A Year’s Midnight (2012), and The Golden Ass (2024).
ABOUT LIMERICK WRITERS’ CENTRE: The Limerick Writers’ Centre was founded as a not-for-profit organisation in 2008 to support and promote writers from or living in Limerick through readings, workshops and publishing activities.
