In this remarkable Cantata for the Dead, Kenneth Hickey ranges deep into the terrain of warriors and war, of suffering and heroism, slaughter and salvation. Skilfully weaving together his own compassionate reflections with quotations from texts ranging from Classical Greece to present-day Ukraine, he calls up a chorus of lamentation, the voices of those who fought and died set against voices of the bereaved. A work for many voices, respectful, epic in its scope and in its ambition.
