This month, our guests are Keith Armstrong and Peter Dixon from Newcastle Upon Tyne plus OPEN-MIC!
Peter Dixon will talk with Keith with illustrated examples of their work together over the years.
Keith Armstrong has worked as a community worker, poet, librarian and publisher. He is coordinator of the Northern Voices Community Projects creative writing and community publishing enterprise. His poetry has been extensively published in magazines such as New Statesman and Poetry Review as well as in the collections Splinters (2011) and The Month of the Asparagus (2011) and broadcast on radio & TV. He has performed his poetry throughout Britain and abroad.
Peter Dixon’s original career was as a design professional with skills in art direction, advertising, illustration, publishing, photography, print, writing and research. His first involvement with arts and the community was with the Bede Gallery, Jarrow, during the 1970’s. Alongside a commercial career in newspapers and design studios he worked with a number of community theatre groups in the 70’s and 80’s, designing publicity materials and painting backdrops. He has a long association with writers and community publishing, including Strong Words and, more recently, as a founder-member of Northern Voices Community Projects.From 2005 to 2015 he Co-Edited and designed the regional Arts and Listings monthly magazine ‘The Informer’ which distributed 25,000 free copies throughout the North East.
Everyone is invited to take part in the open-mic after the main event, poets, storytellers, musicians and writers. Even if you don’t write you are welcome to bring something along to read. The night begins at 8.00pm and admission is free. So join us on the night and make this event something special.
