This month we are delighted to welcome poets Paddy Moran and marian O’Rourke PLUS the Open-Mic!
Patrick Moran was born in Templetuohy, County Tipperary, where he still lives. He works as a post-primary teacher. He has won the Gerard Manley Hopkins Poetry Prize; he has also been a winner at Listowel Writers’ Week and the 2008 Éist Poetry Competition. In 1990, he was shortlisted for the Hennessy/Sunday Tribune Poetry Award. His poems have appeared widely in the major Irish outlets: Poetry Ireland Review, The Irish Times, Cyphers, The Honest Ulsterman, Cork Literary Review, THE SHOp, Irish Pages and The Stinging Fly. His work is featured in anthologies, including the inaugural Forward Book of Poetry (UK), The Stony Thursday Book and The Best of Irish Poetry 2007. Patrick Moran has published two collections of poetry: The Stubble Fields (Dedalus Press 2001) and Green (Salmon Poetry 2008).
Marian O’Rourke is from Limerick. She has spent most of her life in North America. Her poems have been published in a variety of journals and anthologies, in Ireland, England, and Canada. She has broadcast her work on WBAI Radio, New York City, and Lyric FM Radio, Ireland, and has performed at poetry events in Ireland, England, Canada, and The United States. She has published two previous poetry books, Uprooted, published in 2008 by Horn Press and Inhaling The Light, published by Lapwing in 2009. She holds an M.A. in creative writing from Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland. Forty years ago, Marian met Adnan Sarhan, a Sufi Master from Baghdad and became his student, travelling with him throughout Europe, Canada, and The United States. Many of her poems reflect this period of her life
Everyone is invited to take part in the open-mic after the main event, poets, storytellers, musicians and writers. Even if you don’t write you are welcome to bring something along to read. The night begins at 8.00pm and admission is free. So join us on the night and make this event something special.
NOTE: Our special authors book table will again be in operation, so if you want your book, CD’s etc publicised make sure you are represented on the table. Contact Dominic Taylor at 087 2996409 to make arrangements.
The Limerick Writers’ Centre is currently unfunded and depends for revenue from sales of books and donations.
