The book will be launched by Greg Carey.
Ron Carey’s latest book celebrates the power of creativity in older life. It is a book of wonderful, compelling poetry, complemented by the stories and struggles of creative men and women. People like Mary Wesley, whose novel The Camomile Lawn, written when she was 70, scandalised British society with its attitude to sex. Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote her first book, Little House in the Big Woods, when she was 65. Paul Cézanne, artist, who spent than three decades in isolation and whose genius was only recognised when he was in his 60s. Frank Lloyd Wright, architect, still working on the building of the Guggenheim Museum at 91. Carmen Herrera, artist, who sold her first piece of artwork at the age of 81. Anna Mary Robertson Moses – Grandma Moses, who began painting at the age of 78. Raymond Chandler, American crime writer, who spent his childhood summers in Waterford, was 51 when he wrote his famous novel The Big Sleep. Frank McCourt, writer, wrote Angela’s Ashes, his first book, aged 66. And many more remarkable stories of painters, writers, poets, singers, sculptors and musicians. Carey’s accompanying poems are a homage to these dedicated and resilient people, reflecting on and highlighting their inspiring lives.
