The Limerick Writer’s Centre are delighted to announce that celebrated Irish writer Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, has been appointed external judge of the Gerald Griffin Competition for First Original Adult Fiction 2024.
Ní Chuilleanáin is an Irish poet and academic, and has left an indelible mark on the literary landscape. Born in Cork City in 1942, she is the daughter of Professor Cormac O’ Chuilleanáin and the novelist Eilís Dillon.
Her poetic journey traverses time and location, crossing cultural borders and epochs, but her contributions extend beyond poetry. She embarked on a full-time academic career at Trinity College Dublin in 1966, where she lectured in medieval and renaissance English for forty-five years.
Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin’s work transcends the ordinary, inviting readers to explore the extraordinary within language and life itself. Her prose, like her poetry, dances on the edge of revelation and loss, inviting us to explore the extraordinary within language and life itself. Ní Chuilleanáin’s multifaceted journey—from poet to scholar to judge—continues to enrich the world of letters. She has also been the judge of the Rooney Prize for many years, a prize which is awarded for fiction, non-fiction, drama and poetry.
