Miriam was raised in the lush green valleys of the Burren, Co. Clare, a
landscape where stories seem to rise from the limestone itself. Myths, legends,
and family lore shaped her early world, carried into the home by neighbours,
visitors, and her own gifted parents, both natural storytellers. As a child, she
roamed freely across rocks and ring forts, explored fairy rings, and learned to
listen – really listen – to the voices and histories around her. Those early years,
lived without screens or signals, forged a deeper kind of connection: to place,
to people, and to the quiet magic of everyday life.
That inheritance of storytelling stayed with her. Today, she draws on those
memories to craft poems that are concise, vivid, and steeped in the textures
of rural Clare. Her work honours the past while giving it new shape on the
page, preserving the stories that shaped her and celebrating the landscape that
continues to inspire her.
