Fred Johnston was born in Belfast in 1951 he was educated at St Malachyâ€™s College and Toronto, Canada. In 1972 he received a Hennessy Literary Award for prose. He co-founded, with Neil Jordan and Peter Sheridan, The Irish Writers’ co-operative in the mid-Seventies. He has published eight collections of poetry, three novels and two volumes of short stories. Recent poetry has appeared in The Spectator. Alligator Days is his ninth collection.
