A CD of original songs written by Dominic Taylor and Nigel Nix and inspired by the Pulitzer prize winning memoir Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt.

Author: Burning Embers

Genre: Music

Publisher: Limerick Writers’ Centre

The CD was recorded by specially formed Limerick band Burning Embers, consisting of vocalist Vincent Fitzgerald, Jim Hanley on keyboards, Nigel Nix and Mike Moriarty on guitars, with backing vocals by Jenny McMahon. Author McCourt wrote a letter of glowing tribute after hearing the songs.

He wrote: “I can only tell you how moved I was that you undertook and completed such a demanding project. My wife Ellen and I just scratch our heads in wonder.” He also included a personal thanks to all involved in making the CD, which is dedicated to a former Mayor of Limerick, the late Jim Kemmy, of whom McCourt also wrote of as a “man I love above all others…”.

“I couldn’t get enough of it. I thought the book was good but I really only appreciated it after hearing this magnificent CD.” Jim Liddane, International Songwriters Association.

“An excellent work. Adds depth to the book. I really enjoyed it.”Tommy Swarbrig, songwriter and producer.
